DOME DESK
Client: Arhend
This was a team project completed (virtually) over the semester during my first year of my studies. This was my first client project with IDE and if you haven’t guessed already this was in the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The project brief came from Arhend, the leading expert in designing and creating healthy, innovative and inspiring work environments with sustainable Dutch Design furniture. The challenge was simple and straightforward: bring the worker back to the office.
As described in the video below, we created a shell for a desk which would allow for both disease protection required for public health regulations and privacy associated with working in an open concept office space. With concerns about sustainability and logistics, the product used a ‘flat-pack’ origami design using hexagonal pieces. We created a mini model as a proof of concept and created mockups of what our design could look like. I then put together the video and logo which we showed off during our digital expo. I learned a great deal about the design process and working with a team.
Please note: This was designed early-on in the pandemic when knowledge about how the virus spread was still evolving.
