Our Mission: Communicate & Connect

Our mission for both INHOUSE and OUZEL is to create meaningful and beautiful designs for nonprofits, small businesses, individuals, and governments and their partners. The “InHouse” in our name reflects how we approach design: close collaboration with clients, personal and timely response, and a long-term commitment to both your project and your vision. Depending on the day, you can find us in Africa, Europe or America.

InHouse Design Studio is devoted to the fun and funky side of life. Under our InHouse umbrella we are determined to make art and decorate your home, office and business with science-themed art.

Where InHouse Design is silly, Ouzel is slightly, just slightly, more serious. Ouzel has a heart for science communications. Armed with biology, chemistry, art, international development, foreign affairs and science policy degrees, CVs heavy on research, comms and education, we take full advantage of our daily immersion in public health, climate impacts and environmental conservation. Anne and Todd have worked together on research, writing and publishing since they met in 1996. This team loves the challenge of communicating science to the public.

Check out our site and our Instagram accounts. We’d love to hear from you so please get in touch.

Meet THE TEAM

Anne

CREATIVE DIRECTOR & GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Anne lives in Lusaka, Zambia and has her hands in everything from environmental education, public health, branding and identity, book design, logo design and more. Occasionally you’ll find her in her favorite park…paint splattered and happily working away on a science-themed mural.

Anne very much prefers to be behind the camera than on center stage which possibly why she's gone grey between the time she launched this website and when she added this "about the team" page.

An avid academic (aka nerd) Anne is forever pursing further studies. She is presently collecting continuing education certificates in the area of Development & Climate Change — revisiting her graduate research at the University of Washington where she was lucky enough to study under “climate-change luminary” Dr. Ed Miles. Anne’s ambition for Ouzel is to carry on with science communications in a way that honours the legacy of Dr. Miles.

Owen

GRAPHIC ARTIST AND DESIGNER

Owen lives in the Netherlands where he recently finished a degree in Industrial Design Engineering. He is a risk taker who is full of new and original ideas.

He is busy solving real world problems and building a robust portfolio by designing everything from Mobility aids to Electric Car Parts. Owen keeps his Adobe Creative Suite skills rounded out with side projects creating logos, designing apparel, making concert posters and doing street photography.

At InHouse Design Studio, Owen gets credit for being the brains behind the series of art prints called Visit Zambia which features retro-style artwork of Zambia’s wonderful wild spaces in the tradition of the American WPA graphic artists of the 1940s.

Peter

BUSINESS AND PLANNING

Peter (aka Finny) lives in England while he is pursuing a degree in Business Management with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship.

Peter assists with InHouse Design Studio logistics and planning, doing everything from seeing up for market days, streamlining processes behind the scene, and helping with planning. He keeps an eye on InHouse Design Studio trajectory and ensures that our work aligns with our goals

Peter’s approach to problem-solving is balanced and reflective.

Todd

COMMUNICATIONS & RESEARCH SPECIALIST

What can we say about Todd? Todd is the guy you didn’t know you need on your team. He is the mover and shaker and the one who gets things done around here.

Practical and organized, Todd’s contributions are research, writing, and being the one who can (barely) sit still during important meetings. Todd can zero in on an important detail while still keeping the bigger picture in mind.

Todd is infinitely curious and is also the diplomat of this family enterprise. He is our InHouse Design critic, cheerleader and collaborator.

To Ouzel, Todd brings his rich journalism and foreign affairs background, his talent for prose, his extensive experience in public health and his passion for communicating science to the public.
