Coffee culture & Co

As a marine biologist from the city of Seattle, moving to landlocked Zambia was not an easy move. Adding to my discomfort was the extreme lack of anything besides instant coffee and sweet, black tea. Again, I was coming from Seattle. Then the Southern hemisphere stars aligned and I was approached to design what was going to be Zambia’s first proper coffee shop. Zambia is a coffee producing country, so it was fitting that we finally got to enjoy coffee, even if it did nothing to address the lack of a marine life (or a beach without crocodiles).

Lusaka’s Blue Moon Cafe was born in 2012. InHouse was responsible for producing logos, signs, uniforms, caps and menus, plus designing the space, picking the paint, shopping for the furniture.

This experience propped open the coffee door for InHouse; soon we were in the thick of all things Zambian coffee including marketing for the country-wide Barista Championship.

We had the opportunity to design a new coffee shop in 2015 when Coffee Culture & Co came onto the scene. A new color palette and a fresh, new, goat-inspired logo. It was a lot of fun. InHouse was again on hand for the next transition when Coffee Culture & Co became The Deli.

Lusaka is now home to many wonderful coffee shops and espresso bars, and InHouse is proud to have been there from the ground up. (get it?)

Please click through the branding and marketing portfolio for Coffee Culture & Co (below) to see a bit of what we’ve done. Cheers!

InHouse Design Studio was brought on board for this epic cafe journey from the beginning — wait! We were there before the beginning! This was Blue Moon Cafe, under construction.

What a wonderful trip it’s been.
